People who lived in squatter's area loves to make children, they love making love everyday, it's their hobby because they think it's fun. They keep on adding a child to their family every year, they strive to become happy that's why they're stuck in poverty.
Happiness is not to be rushed. It will come to you if you work for it. You will get it if you deserve it. After all, happiness is just an emotion. It is nothing but a feeling, it will come and go. Never think that something or someone is your source of happiness, you can become sad anytime even if you have all the money or nicest people around you. Life is a roller coaster of emotions, one day you will be happy and the other day you will be sad.
The point here is... if you will be tempted by stupid pleasures that has no reward then you will become broke in the end, your life will be attracted to poverty, as simple as that.
Stop looking for instant happiness like gambling, spending, playing stupid games etc. If you keep doing it then you will become broke. Don't ever make an excuse and use the phrase like "I just want to be happy". This phrase is used by stupid people who can't make sacrifices for the bigger picture.
Real happiness comes from growth, it comes from striving to become better. Practicing delayed gratification will give you a big happiness. The more you delay happiness... more you will have it in just a matter of time.
Just work hard and enjoy boredom. Do activities that you think will give you a huge reward in the future. Practice delayed gratification, don't look for happiness because it is easy to attract it. You can even become happy by laughing at someone who accidentally slips on the floor. Happiness will come so don't look for it or else your life will become miserable in the end.
Just learn how to endure pain, learn to wait, learn to work hard and you will be alright. Never do stupid things that will put you on a bad position in the future. Always choose sacrifice over short term pleasure because it will give you real happiness in the long run, not just a temporary happiness but real happiness.
